Thing #7-Google Tools

Okay, I've set up a link to a Google Doc of our grade level newsletter. This way, the parents can access the newsletter from the blog, as well as go back and view past newsletters. I can envision doing links to Google Docs for spelling and vocabulary lists, permission slips for field trips, order forms, etc. Multitude of uses for both classroom and administrative documents.

I also set up a Google Alert. The one I set up is not educational--I'm playing around--but will keep me informed about my favorite baseball team. :-)

I looked at Google calendar, and it's really intriguing. I love my Yahoo calendar; it has many of the same features as the Google. I'm going to look a little deeper and see if the switch would be worth it.

  1. I love Google Calendar. I can create and manage multiple calendars and then color code them and look at them together. I added a google calendar to 2 of my blogs, including the 4th grade blog. I can't wait to learn about google documents. I also added an email subscription to our 4th grade blog so that parents were notified automatically when we updated the blog. Unfortunately, it isn't immediate- more like within 24 hours.

  2. I never thought of using google for parents too! What a great idea! Middle school teachers are not as concerned as Elementary teachers about that kind of thing. I am glad I looked at your blog. It was very helpful and refreshing! How are you? Are you and Carrie teaching on the same team this year? I miss my RCE friends. Ya'll are amazing!
